A co-worker of mine mentioned that she had bought these for her husband, so after work I ran to Walmart and found them ($1.98 for a 17-ounce bag).  Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of candy corn, but when she told me that this candy corn was green apple-flavored, I had to try it.

The verdict:  If one were to take a Granny Smith apple and cut it into slices, and then dip said slices into buttercream cake frosting, it would probably taste a whole lot like this…except it’d be much crunchier, naturally.  Still, this one gets the Halloween Snack Seal of Approval.

Yup.  It’s that time of year again…the time when I spend inordinate amounts of time watching horror movies and generally reveling in all things autumnal.  Yup, when October rolls around, it means two things:

1.  Horror movies on the TV…and lots of ’em.  This year I’ll again be participating in the October Horror Movie Challenge at the DVDTalk.com forum.  This is my third straight year to participate, and I’m more amped-up than ever for some horror movie goodness.  I explained all about the OHMC last year about this time, so if you don’t know what I’m talking about and want to find out more, just scroll down until you find the post from September 26th, 2011, and read all about it.  (You could also go to the September 2011 Archives button in the navigation panel on the left, but that would take away all the fun of scrolling ’til your pointer finger aches.)  If YOU’D like to join in on the OHMC, just click on the words “DVDTalk.com forum” in the second sentence of this paragraph, and through the magic of hyperlinking, you’ll be taken to the main page for the challenge, where you can find out what to do.  As I did last year, I’ll be reposting some of my reviews from the OHMC challenge here, so you’ll be kept abreast of the good, the bad, and the fugly of what I watch.  So, stay tuned to this space for updates, starting October 1st.

2.  A celebration of all things Halloween.  Again, like last year, I’ll be participating in the Halloween Countdown.  In case you missed it last year, you can use the navi links to the left or scroll down until you find my blog entry from September 28th, 2011, where the concept of the Halloween Countdown is outlined.  It’s easiest to think of it as a big cyber-neighborhood where you can go trick-or-treating at all the various websites…except that everyone’s porch light is on and they won’t be giving lame candy like peppermints or those chewy things wrapped in waxy orange and black paper.  If you’d like to join in on the fun, just go here to add your site to the list.  If you want to go trick-or-treating, there are dozens of links at the Countdown to Halloween site so that you won’t EVER be bored this October.

So, check back here periodically during October for movie reviews and something new this year–I’ll be adding some of my Halloween finds from the supermarkets and thrift stores regularly.  It’s gonna be fun!!

…and that’s a good thing.

In lieu of an actual post, I’ve got a link today to a comment that one of my readers has posted to this blog.  I started to leave it buried in the comments section, but I thought that it raised some interesting points, even if I don’t personally subscribe to them.  Click here to read the comment (and my follow-up comment).

What do you think?  Does Thomas have a valid point?  Have I been overly cruel to the artists that I’ve discussed here?  Let me (and Thomas) know by commenting on this post–come back here after reading the comments and click on the little dialogue balloon at the top right to post your thoughts.

Also, since we’re talking about critics, you need to see this if you haven’t already:  it’s Mel Brooks’s first film, a short called…”The Critic.”
